The bible was written by 40 people over 1500 years! That is amazing!!! Why, because it tells the story of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. There is no inconsistency, meaning it does not contradict itself as if it was written all at once. What are the odds of that happening? 1 with 50 zeros (1:100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000). That is impossible! Except it happened. We have the bible as proof. The message God wanted his creation to have is 66 chapters of “God-breathed and useful” 2 Timothy 3:16 information to live by, learn from, and love with. The was written in Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic. Since God created the universe, humans, animals, love, joy, and peace, why couldn’t He write a book about himself with instructions on how to live?

God commanded Moses to write the first five books of the bible (Exodus 34:27). Most of the Old Testament was written in Hebrew, except Ezra, Daniel, and one verse in Jeremiah. These books were written in Aramaic. Jesus spoke Aramaic. The New Testament was written in Greek. Greek was the language used from 50AD-100AD, when the New Testament.

The authors of the each book and the letters was written for different audiences. Moses wrote to the Israelites. Matthew wrote to the Jewish people. Paul wrote to the gentiles.

How do we know this is true? In 1947, a first century before Christ (BC), a copy of Hebrew Old Testament scrolls were found by the Dead Seas. The scrolls are known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. The finding of these scrolls proves the writings in the Old Testament do exist.

The point is the words written by 40 people are inspired by God. The writers themselves tell us their inspiration came from God. Think about it. Moses was born in     and wasn’t around when Adam and Eve were alive. How would Moses know in such detail how Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan or how God told Noah what dimensions to use to build the ark? The words came to the authors as the inspired word of God according to 2 Timothy 3:16. Timothy tells us “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking (reprimand or scolding), correcting, and training in righteousness.” David says “Every word of God in flawless” Psalm 30:5. The writers of the inspired words God gave them to write can say this since they are human and they know the words giving to them is more than they could come up with on their own.

Here are three examples the Holy Spirit came on individuals to speak and record the words and works of God. Numbers 24:2, “When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came on him and he spoke his message:”  Judges 3:10, “The Spirit of the Lord came on him, so that he became Israel’s judge and went to war.” Judges 6:34, “Then the Spirit of the Lord came  on Gideon, and…” and Judges 11:29, 14,6, and 14:19. The bible is full of examples of ordinary people used by God to write what God wants us to know from him. God warns us, Deuteronomy 4:2Deuteronomy 12:32Proverbs 30:5-6, and Revelation 22:18, “do NOT add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”

You see, God gave 40 people over 1500 years a part to play in his story (history), to allow us to know Him and to accept Him as someone who loves us so very much, He sent his son to be our replacement for our sinful thinking and behavior. I’ll explain why we need someone to take our place, so we can be with God in heaven.

It’s a little scary to start a blog talking about God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus. I do not want to lead you astray, confuse anyone, or mis-inturrupt God’s words. However, in today’s world of technology and with God’s commission to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything he has commanded us”. How can I not tell people who, without Jesus as their savior, will forever be separated from God.
